Please make sure your kids are organised and there on time.
Please register your child. We do not use numbers, however we still need to know who is racing.
Swimming – if your child is not a strong swimmer it may be a good idea to get in the water with them (at the very least keep a watchful eye on them from the shore). Even though we have water safety personnel you can never be too careful when it comes to your kids! We have a supply of kick boards for any parent to use should they see a swimmer in difficulty.
No smoking – Rockingham Triathlon Club has a Healthy Club Policy of no smoking in and around children, and definitely no smoking near the transition area. If you do have to light up, please move away to where the kids cannot see you.
Transition Area – please keep the area where the kids rack their bikes and change into their shoes etc clear at all times. If your child needs assistance there will be a transition marshal to assist them.
Please encourage your child. Please encourage all of the kids! Encourage your kids to show support for their fellow competitors and at all times good sportsmanship.
We welcome any help or assistance during races. Without the parental support we will be struggling. If you are prepared to help please see Geoff or Vicki about 10-15 minutes before each race.
We are always open for suggestions to improve, so please see any of the contacts listed with your ideas. |

Registration:
Check you have all your equipment
Make sure you know where to go and what time you need to be there
Give yourself plenty of time on event day. Get to the event location at least 20 minutes before the event
Make sure you register before you do anything else. Event Briefing:
Make sure that you know the course and where to go for transition.
Listen carefully at briefing
Make sure you know any rules
Know how many laps you are meant to be doing
Transition Area: | |
Take note of the entry and exit points
Set up your bike, place your shoes at the point closest to you with your t-shirt and helmet alongside, keep your equipment bag out of the way
A good idea is to place your helmet on the handlebars or the seat so that you don’t forget to put it on
Make sure that your laces/shoes are open and easy to put on. Or better still, have elastic laces
Put on your sunscreen | |
Do a little warm up exercise before you participate
Pace yourself and have a great time! Don’t forget to smile when you cross the finish line! After the event:
When you cross the finish line you will be handed a numbered card. Wait in line and tell the recorder your name and give them your card.
Have a drink and something healthy to eat soon after completing the event. This will help restore your energy that you used during the event and assist in your recovery
Take a photo with your family and friends
Make sure you wait until after the last participant has finished before you go to collect your bike and equipment from the transition area |

Be Prepared:
Lay out your gear the night before and check it off against your checklist
If you want to use socks roll them up so that you can slip your toes in and then roll the sock over your foot
When you’re sitting down at night before bed practice putting your helmet on and off including practicing clipping it up
Practice getting your shoes on and off if you have elastic laces
Practice rolling your bike while you walk/run beside it (keeping both hands on the handle bars; or one hand on the handle bar and the other on the seat) and finally practice getting on and off your bike.
Make sure you know the course, times and event details
Get plenty of rest | |
Remember! Laugh, have fun and smile when you swim, bike and run!!
